An Amazon gift card code only becomes useful once it is added to your account as gift card balance. The steps are almost identical across countries, but each Amazon store is a separate shop with its own balance, its own redeem page and its own language. Below you will find the route for each store we sell cards for, the difference between doing it in the app or the browser, and what to do when Amazon rejects a code.
The rule that matters most: one card, one store
An Amazon card issued for Spain is redeemed on amazon.es and can only be spent there. The same goes for amazon.de, amazon.fr, amazon.it, amazon.co.uk and amazon.com. You cannot move a balance from one store to another, and a code from one country will not be accepted by another country's store. That is why our Amazon gift card page asks for the country before anything else.

When your code is ready, the order page shows a "Redeem it now" button that opens the right page for the store you bought, so you do not have to type the address.
Redeeming in the browser
- Open the redeem page of your store and sign in to the account that should receive the balance.
- Paste the code exactly as shown on your order page. Copy it with the copy button rather than typing it, to avoid confusing similar characters.
- Confirm. The amount is added to your gift card balance and the page shows the new total.
- At checkout, the gift card balance is normally applied first. If your basket costs more, you pay the rest with another payment method.
Redeeming in the Amazon app
In the shopping app the option sits in your account area, usually under Your Account → Gift cards (or the local-language equivalent). Some versions of the app also let you scan a code with the camera; with a digital code, pasting is faster and safer. Make sure the app is set to the same country store as the card. The app can be switched between countries, and a code redeemed while you are on the wrong store will simply fail.
Common errors and how to fix them
"This code is not valid in this store"
The code belongs to another country. Check which region you bought on your order page and redeem it on that store. If you have no account there, you can usually create one with the same email.
"This code has already been redeemed"
Check your gift card balance first: it may have been added already, for example if you clicked twice. If it was not you, contact us through the support chat with your order ID straight away.
"Invalid code" or typo-like errors
Remove spaces at the start or end, and paste rather than type. Codes are long and mixing up characters such as 0 and O is easy.
The balance does not cover your order
Gift card balance can be combined with a bank card or another payment method for the remaining amount. You can also redeem several codes on the same account; they add up.
Checking your balance after redeeming
Each store has a gift card balance page in the account area, next to the redeem option. It shows the current balance and the history of codes added, which is useful if you redeem several cards or want to confirm that a code went through. At checkout, Amazon also shows how much gift card balance it is using for that order and how much is left to pay with another method. If you prefer not to spend the balance on a particular order, you can usually untick it on the payment step.
Practical tips
- Redeem soon. Once the code is in your account, it can no longer be used by someone else who sees it.
- Check the store terms on Amazon for that country: some products sold by third parties, or digital services, can have their own rules on gift card balance.
- Bigger purchases: amounts go up to 2000 per card, so you do not need to stack many small codes for a laptop or a TV.
